Signing at the Book House October 24
I'll be at the Book House, in Stuyvesant Plaza, Albany, for a book signing on the on-sale date for Once Upon a Banana. Once I know the time I'll post it, but since it's a school day I'm assuming it will be in the afternoon.

first reviews

Reviews are beginning to come in for The American Story. Here's an excerpt from the starred review in School Library Journal: "This collection of lively tales demonstrates the broad base of individuals who make up our country and the slow accretion of incidents that create a heritage." And here's a bit from the starred review in Kirkus: "Armstrong approaches history as a storyteller, and each of these stories is a gem of clear and consise writing."A few weeks ago I was in New Orleans for the American Library Association convention, and at a Random House Children's Book party I ran into the editor of Kirkus, who assured me there would be a "big fat star" next to the review of my book. Too bad they can't actually make their stars larger or smaller, but hearing that vote of confidence was a very nice pat on the back.

July 20

The machinery is being wound up. I have gigs coming up throughout the fall, and managing the scheduling seems to have become a full time job. This is the first time I've had two major titles coming out almost simultaneously, and I'm going to be on the road a lot.
