Reviews are beginning to come in for The American Story. Here's an excerpt from the starred review in School Library Journal: "This collection of lively tales demonstrates the broad base of individuals who make up our country and the slow accretion of incidents that create a heritage." And here's a bit from the starred review in Kirkus: "Armstrong approaches history as a storyteller, and each of these stories is a gem of clear and consise writing."A few weeks ago I was in New Orleans for the American Library Association convention, and at a Random House Children's Book party I ran into the editor of Kirkus, who assured me there would be a "big fat star" next to the review of my book. Too bad they can't actually make their stars larger or smaller, but hearing that vote of confidence was a very nice pat on the back.
